Providencia Rum takes its name from a Spanish ship that capsized in Florida in 1878. The cargo consisted of 20,000 coconuts, cigars, wine and rum. Rumor has it that the sinking of the ship was no accident. The captain and his crew were said to have seized the entire cargo and settled in Florida in the Palm Beach area where they grew coconut plants to earn a living.
Providencia is a blend of four rums from different Caribbean islands.
The \Mayfair\ brand, which is also behind Providencia Rum, is also known for its luxurious gins and vodkas.
